Adele Gaburo is a 20-year-old, New Jersey born artist, who is now based in San Diego, California. As a sculptor, ceramicist, and printmaker, she works in a variety of mediums, with silicone, fabric, and clay being her most loved. The majority of her work addresses issues of body dysmorphia and the empty, shameful, all-consuming feelings of “otherness” that can be associated with it. Whether it be through amorphous bodily forms, less-loved animals, or depictions of decay, each of her pieces is a reflection of her own battles with herself throughout the years, and a lifelong journey to self-acceptance. Gaburo focuses on making work that generates strong emotions, taking pride in the looks of disgust, empathy, or feelings that cannot quite be identified on the faces of her viewers.
